Smile Makeover

Smile Makeover Treatments for Missing Teeth

Individuals that have missing teeth, can benefit from smile makeover treatments. It is crucial to replace lost teeth because routine tasks like chewing and speaking can quickly become complicated, and the bite alignment and shape of the mouth may start to change. In this article, you will learn about the options available to restore missing teeth.

Options for Missing teeth

Smile makeover treatments for missing teeth include:

Dental implants

Dental implants are one of the most common smile makeover options for replacing one lost tooth or several missing teeth. It is an excellent choice to close gaps between the smile. They are natural-looking, durable, stable and have no special maintenance requirements compared to other tooth replacement options. Most dentists recommend dental implants because they last longer and are more comfortable. Implants can replace any number of missing teeth, whether one, two or complete tooth loss.

The implant itself is an artificial tooth root that acts as the foundation for tooth restoration. The metal post fuses with the jawbone and mimics the feel and function of natural teeth. With proper care, implant restorations can last a lifetime. However, the implant placement process requires surgery and tend to cost more than other available options.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges are popular solutions for single-tooth replacements and are an inexpensive alternative to dental implants. The dental bridge consists of a prosthetic tooth to close the gap, anchored by natural teeth on either side.

Bridges have the look and feel of natural teeth and are ideally used to replace the molars that are used for chewing. A resin-retained bridge is more suitable for replacing missing teeth in the front row, which do no endure as much force when eating.

Typically used for replacing one or more teeth, a regular bridge is built by placing crowns on the teeth on the side of the lost teeth. The tooth prosthesis (called pontic) is held in place by the crowns. The prosthesis is fabricated from porcelain or similar material. With adequate oral care, dental bridges for smile makeovers can last up to 15 years.

Partial and complete dentures

A removal partial can be used when only a small section of teeth are missing. Partial dentures consist of prosthetic teeth connected to a base that looks like the natural gums. This denture is great for chewing and has good cosmetic appeal. They are, however, not as durable as a tooth implant or bridge over the long term.

Complete dentures

Completes dentures are used in the event of total tooth loss. They can replace every tooth on the upper or lower arch of the oral cavity. They are also customizable to match the natural teeth. This dental prosthesis rests on the gums for support. In some cases, they can be attached to dental implants for support.
