A smile makeover uses multiple dental treatments to correct any problems a patient might have with the appearance of their smile. The appearance of a person's smile frequently plays an important role when it comes to how they feel about themselves.
People with unhealthy looking teeth sometimes avoid social interaction since they always feel judged about the appearance of their teeth. They are not being paranoid, either, since negative assumptions are often made about people with unsightly teeth. They are typically seen as being unclean or unattractive. Meanwhile, those with amazing smiles have positive traits attributed to them. They are seen as attractive, youthful and successful. Their smiles have a way of brightening up rooms and others look forward to interacting with them.
Fortunately, anyone can now have the smile of their dreams thanks to cosmetic dentistry and smile makeover treatments.
The process typically starts with a consultation with a dentist. The oral professional will examine the patient's mouth, looking for imperfections in their teeth and gums. The dentist will ask the patient about the things they dislike the most about their smile and what their ideal smile would look like. The dentist will then select appropriate treatments that address all of the patient's concerns.
Procedures commonly performed during a smile makeover include:
Veneers are a very popular smile makeover treatment. These oral restorations are responsible for a large share of smiles on television and the big screen. Veneers are tooth-shaped, tooth-colored shells that are cemented onto the front surface of teeth. They produce instant results and the process can be completed in as little as two weeks.
The installation of veneers starts with the dentist preparing the patient's teeth. A shot of a local anesthetic is administered and the dentist removes portions of the enamel to create space for the veneers. There are special types of veneers that do not require significant amounts of enamel to be removed; these are called "no-prep" veneers.
Once the patient's teeth are prepared, the dentist will take an impression of their teeth or use digital images to create a 3D model of the patient's mouth. The data or impression is sent to dental technicians who create the patient's customized veneers in a dental lab. The patient will be fitted with temporary veneers to protect their teeth. That means their smile will be improved by the end of their first appointment.
It normally takes a couple of weeks for the lab to get the customized veneers back to the dentist. The patient comes back for a second appointment and the dentist takes off the temporary veneers and installs the customized ones.
